Jake's is a Portland institution. Located in the historic and recently-restored Governor Hotel, it's a great place to soak up old-fashioned Portland ambience while sipping wine, savoring freshly-caught salmon, or cracking into a creme brulee. On warm summer nights, the outside seating along 10th Avenue offers great people-watching, and on rainy winter days the leather-upholstered booths and dark wood finishes of the restaurant and bar make for a cozy retreat.
Jake's is probably most attractive to lovers of fresh fish and classically-prepared meat dishes, which are undoubtedly their specialties. However, there is also a good selection of salads (ranging from light to hearty) and pasta plates available for vegetarians. I am particularly fond of the spinach, goat cheese and strawberry salad, while the delicious sourdough bread is always a highlight for Eva.
Even if you're full after feasting on one of Jake's generous dinner portions, make sure to have your waitperson bring around the dessert tray. It's beautiful and the selection is quite impressive - so much so that I have been known to eat dessert first! -Emily
