March Cubester Spotlight
Ring in Spring! Come dye eggs with us.
In a fit of high spirits brought on by the fragrant Spring air, balmy February sunshine and clumps of crocus bursting out all over the city, we at CubeSpace have decided to hold a celebratory event to mark the new season. At lunchtime on Wednesday, March 19, we'll be having an egg-dyeing in the Agora and an egg hunt throughout the space. The festivities should get going around 11:30, so come chip in and take a dye/hunt break. Spring is almost here!
Welcome, New Cubist Mycroft!
Starting in early March, there will be an addition to the CubeSpace gang: Mycroft Evans, who is returning to Portland after a number of years in Melbourne, Australia. She brings with her management experience in the high-tech and telecommunications industries, as well as (need we even mention?) the ability to knit and crochet. We're excited for Mycroft's arrival; feel free to introduce yourself if you see her around the office.
Save the Date: Nonprofit Continuum Conference
The second annual Nonprofit Continuum Conference will be taking place at Portland State University and CubeSpace next month, on April 4th and 5th. On the 5th, a Saturday, sessions will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at CubeSpace, and cover a range of topics from cultural norms and leadership transitions, to managing volunteers and integrating grantwriting and program development. To cap it all off, our own Eva Schweber will be presenting! For more information or to register for the conference, visit www.nonprofitcontinuum.org.
Portland LeTip Now Meeting at CubeSpace
We'd like to welcome the Portland chapter of networking group LeTip, who will be meeting at CubeSpace every Wednesday morning from 7:01 to 8:31 a.m. to trade leads and present information about their businesses. For more information on LeTip's current membership and how to join, visit their website at http://portlandletip.com/.
Patent Law Advice with Dr. John
Twice weekly throughout March, attorney John Anderton will be offering free patent law advice to interested individuals. If you've got questions about patent law, want clarification or just have an idea you'd like to bounce off a lawyer's trained ear, feel free to visit Dr. John Tuesdays between 2 and 3 p.m. and Thursdays between 7 and 8 p.m. John has written patents for a wide range of fields, from toys and simple mechanicals to server systems and surgical instruments, and he would love to find out about what you are working on!
Member Spotlight: Martin and Larissa Brown
Given all of the fantastic fiber arts that go on at CubeSpace, you may not be surprised to learn that one of our members has a knitting book slated for release this month. Knitalong, a collaborative effort between Martin Brown and his wife Larissa Brown, examines the social experience of knitting: what it has meant to people, both contemporary and historical, to knit together in groups. The book combines essays, patterns and stunning photographs, and will be available for purchase on the Ides of March. The release party, being held on the 15th at Abundant Yarn in Sellwood (8524 SE 17th Ave.), will be a fun time for all involved, so stop by and pick up a book!
